My experience so far with the Careers Service at Newcastle University Business School has been rewarding, few schools have robust career services that cater to students' professional needs. The careers service can be thought of as a starting point for a journey towards professional and self-discovery.
Engaging with the Careers Service has been a rewarding experience for me, it has helped me define my career growth, learn how to market my skillset, and work out how to navigate the tricky world of career planning. The business school has two Career Consultants.
The Careers Service is a source of help, providing individualised consultations and assessments based on each person's talents and objectives. Career Consultants, who are skilled in charting out possible career trajectories based on an individual's interests, abilities, and long-term goals, frequently provide consultations. For example, I was able to get help in both my CV development and cover letter writing with the aid of career services.
Additionally, conferences and seminars on skill development and industry trends are frequently held by the Careers service. These workshops are excellent environments for developing critical skills like leadership, problem-solving, and communication. They also provide priceless insights into the dynamics of the labour market and developing industries, enabling people to make well-informed professional decisions.
By planning networking events, alumni panels and career fairs, the Careers Service help create networking opportunities. These platforms help students and alumni feel more connected to one another and to employers. I had the opportunity to network with people in different sectors through a networking event hosted by the Careers Service recently, I learned about a variety of career paths directly from the source and broadened my professional network through these events. Newcastle University Business School Careers Services are always hosting these events at least monthly.
In summary, the events and the Careers Service at the business school are crucial in determining a person's career path and promoting all-around growth. Through one-on-one guidance, courses on developing skills, and networking opportunities, the Careers Service enables people to map out their routes to satisfying jobs. Similarly, the business school hosts activities that foster professional networking, career exploration, and intellectual debate - giving students the tools they need to succeed in today's cutthroat environment. Making the most of the resources provided by the Careers Service will surely pave the path for long-term job success and personal fulfilment.
The Careers Service provides you with opportunity to a variety of learning and networking platforms, help you define your job roles, and advise you when needed, ultimately it is left for the students to utilise these resources and make the best of it.
