Interested in adding an international experience to your degree but unsure about where to go? NUBS has several partners around the world, with teaching available in English in all destinations.

Several Business School students spent time studying in Sweden and Denmark as part of their time at NUBS. In this blog, four students share what they learned and explain how they’ve benefitted from the experience.

Louis, Business Management student

Studied for a year at Stockholm University, Sweden

"I found the year to be one of the most informative years of my life and loved every second. I studied Business Administration and studied modules such as PPE, Global Markets, Internet Marketing, Entrepreneurship and HRM. A lot of these focused around a global aspect of Business Management. I really enjoyed this as I had chosen to study abroad and wanted to expand my cultural knowledge.

"Stockholm and Sweden in general has a massive English uptake, so I used English every single day without worry. However, they did offer free Swedish lessons that were useful.

"My favourite thing was the ability to travel so easily throughout Europe. I could visit loads of new places and cultures so easily and cheaply from Sweden. Seeing the Northern lights from virtually my backyard was another massive highlight for me, and driving 13 hours to Northern Sweden to go skiing was another massive accomplishment!

"I wish I’d known how important this year was going to be in my growth and development as a person. I genuinely believe this year has been one of the best years of my life."

Louise, Marketing student

Studied for a year at Lund University, Sweden

"Lund University students run all the events that take place, so it's good to get involved in the student culture of participating in activities, events and volunteering straight away. They have a system called Nations – they are the equivalent of student ‘colleges’. Almost everyone signs up to become a member of one. Each nation has its own events, Novice weeks, and daily lunches, as well as a bar/club which is strictly only for students and run by students.

"We were fortunate enough to not only travel around Sweden – visiting Göteborg and Stockholm - but also to see and experience other countries too. Copenhagen is only a 50-minute train ride from Lund, a place we frequently visited. But we also had the opportunity to travel and see the Northern Lights in Finland, visit Budapest and some other European cities too!

"I have grown in confidence with how I approach new challenges. The year has also made me more resilient and adaptable to new experiences and environments."

Melodi, Business Management student

Completed a summer school at Aarhus University, Denmark

"Studying in Denmark at Aarhus University was definitely a great experience. The city itself was amazing, it actually reminded me a lot of Newcastle. Aarhus is a small student city with a vibrant atmosphere. It's full of great bars, multiple beaches, and a strong student community, which made it a really nice place to live and study.

"Aarhus had such a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere. It felt like a true student city, with so much to do, from exploring its cosy cafés and lively bars to relaxing at the beaches or enjoying the cultural spots. Being in that environment made everyday life exciting and enjoyable.

"On top of that, the friendships I formed were really what made the experience special. Meeting people from different backgrounds and spending time together – both inside and outside of the organised activities – created memories that were far more valuable than anything I could have gained from the classroom alone."

Stef, International Business Management student

Completed a summer school at Aarhus University, Denmark

"Studying in Denmark was genuinely one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. The course was fun and challenging. We explored real-world events shaping global trade, which made everything feel relevant and exciting.

"I’ve studied abroad before, but there was something really special about Denmark. The beauty of the country, the kindness of the people, and the atmosphere at the university all came together to make the whole experience unforgettable."
