Studied at a Summer School at Aarhus University, Denmark
I studied Deglobalization, Nationalism and Trade War: the Challenge to Global Trade in Summer 2025. This Summer School was offered by Aarhus University in Denmark and allowed me to spend a short time studying a different subject to enhance my educational experience.
The transition to studying in another country was easier than expected – the teaching in Denmark is very similar to the UK. All of my teaching was in English which helped, but students communicated with each other in a range of languages. The content we covered in class was flexible and, although it was an intensive two-week teaching experience, we still had a 15 minute break every hour to get to know people and socialise.
I enjoyed life in Aarhus. The cost of living was good and they have a very reliable public transport system. I was lucky enough to secure university accommodation for the Summer School and enjoyed meeting students from across the globe. I was also fortunate to secure a Business School Summer School Bursary which made the experience more affordable for me.
The people I met was definitely the highlight of my experience – everyone was so friendly and fun! The university organised a social event for every day of the programme, all of which were free or low costs, but we also organised our own activities such as a day on the beach and a trip to Legoland.
Studied at Summer School at Kedge Business School in Marseille, France
I completed a two-week Summer School at the prestigious Kedge Business School in Marseille in summer 2025. The Summer School was called “Sports Marketing and Communication” and enabled me to study something that was quite different to my Newcastle degree.
The quality of teaching was excellent and, as I am a sports enthusiast, the course was really interesting. The lecturer had previously worked with Zinedine Zidane which was fascinating! Although the course was taught in English, I was able to develop my French language skills when out and about. The teaching style was very different to the UK – classes were much longer, which was a surprise but manageable.
I had previously completed a year abroad as part of my degree but this experience enabled my to develop my global experience further and get to know a new city. My previous global experiences have helped me to adapt in new places. There were loads of opportunities to socialise with other students and the university organised activities for each night.
I'm really pleased I had the opportunity to experience life in Marseille!
