Hello! My name is Diego, and I am an undergraduate student studying Business Management. One question that students often have is how a day in the life as a student will look here at Newcastle University Business School. Although schedules vary slightly each day, a normal day in my life will look like this:
7:30am – 9:15am: Breakfast and planning of the day
Every day I wake up at 7:30am. Although it is early, I like to make the best of the day giving me extra time to complete all my activities. From 7:30am to 8:00am I plan for my day; I have a shower and I choose my outfit for that day. At 8:00am I cook breakfast, my favourite choice is eggs, hash browns and a fruit smoothie. Then at around 9:00 am, I look at any emails related to my studies or work, and finally at 9:15am I head to the Frederick Douglas Centre for my first lecture.
9:30am – 10:30am: First lecture
At 9:30am I have my first lecture of the day. It is often at the Frederick Douglass Centre, which is five minutes away from where I live. The first lecture tends to last only an hour giving me time for a break between my next lectures.
10:30am – 12:15pm: Midday snack and exercise
After my lecture, I head back home to get a midday snack. With that extra energy boost, I go to the gym which is a 2-minute walk from my house. I spend around an hour in the gym every day. After the gym, I go to buy groceries at the supermarket next to where I live. I am back at home at around 12:00pm, giving me time to get ready for my next lecture.
12:30pm – 2:30pm: Second lecture
At 12:30pm, I have my second lecture of the day which usually lasts around two hours. Some days I tend to have seminars at this time which usually take place in the Business School. One of the best things about Newcastle is how everything is within a walking distance, giving you extra time that you would spend travelling in other bigger cities.
2:30pm – 4:15pm: Lunch
After the second lecture I cook lunch, which usually takes me around an hour. I cook lunch and dinner during this time; I think this is a good tip to save time in your day. After this, I get ready for my last lecture of the day.
4:30pm – 5:30pm: Third lecture
The last lecture of the day ends around 5:30pm, giving me time to get ready for any activities after my day at university.
5:30pm – 7:00pm: Dinner and homework/review
When I get back from my last lecture, I grab another snack and I complete any due homework, or I review relevant class material. At around 7:00pm I have dinner, since I already cooked my dinner earlier in the day this doesn’t take long.
7:30pm – 11:00pm: Leisure activities
Once I have finished my academic tasks, I can choose from a variety of different activities to finish my day. If there is availability at the sport centre, I usually play basketball with my friends. Sometimes I stay at my house and watch TV with my roommates or play different board games with them. Newcastle has a variety of restaurants and great nightlife which are also good options to end a busy day of lectures. Finally, I go to sleep at around 11:00pm.
