If someone told me a year ago that I’d find a place that feels like home so far away from home, I might not have believed them. But here I am, a few months into my journey at Newcastle University Business School, pursuing an MSc in Accounting, Finance and Strategic Investment, and I can say this with certainty, I would choose this place, these people, and this path again and again. Let me tell you why.

The city that welcomes you

From the moment I stepped off the train at Newcastle Central Station, I felt something special. It wasn’t just the iconic Tyne Bridge or the city’s charm — it was the warmth of the people.

A campus full of dreams

Walking into the university for the first time, I could sense the stories that its walls had witnessed - dreams built, struggles overcome, and futures crafted. It’s a place that encourages you to think big and provides every resource to help you achieve those dreams.

The professors who inspire

It’s not just about lectures and assignments here. The faculty challenges you to think critically, to ask the “whys” and “what ifs.” They don’t just teach, they inspire. One of my professors shared a story about their own struggles with strategic investment decisions, and it made me realise that even the experts started somewhere.

Support that feels personal

Studying abroad isn’t just challenging academically—it’s emotionally demanding. But Newcastle University’s support systems—from the Career Advisors to the mental health services—have been like a steady hand on my shoulder, reminding me I’m not alone.

The spirit of St. James’ Park

I attended my first football game at St. James’ Park recently (Newcastle United vs. Chelsea). The energy, the passion—it wasn’t just about sport. It was about a city that loves fiercely and lives fully. That’s Newcastle.

A course that connects to my future

MSc Accounting, Finance, and Strategic Investment isn’t just a degree, it’s a toolkit for my career. Every module feels purposeful and every assignment like a rehearsal for the real world. It’s not just about what I learn, but also about who I am becoming.

The person I’m becoming

Above all, Newcastle University is shaping me into someone I’m proud of. It’s teaching me resilience, curiosity and the courage to dream bigger than ever before.

Last but not the least, every day here feels like a chapter in a story I want to tell over and over. So, if you’re wondering whether Newcastle is the right choice for you, from my experience, it’s not just a university. It is an experience, a journey, and for me, a life outside my home that feels home.
